The University District of Detroit

Location

The University District neighborhood of Detroit is located south of 7 mile and north of 6 mile. It is flanked on the east by Livernois and the west by the Detroit Golf Club where the PGA will be playing the Rocket Mortgage Classic event in June. It is named the University District as it is located just north of the University of Detroit Mercy.

Neighborhood Architecture

The neighborhood consists of roughly 1,200 homes with architectural styles ranging from English Tudors, Romanesque, Italianate, Spanish Mission, French Provincial, Queen Anne, Georgian, Federalist, Art Moderne, and contemporary. Many of the homes contain limestone fireplaces, ornate plaster crown moldings and Pewabic Tile.

Current Market Status

The neighborhood has seen significant price increases over the past 4 years as it is known as one of the safest neighborhoods in Detroit. In fact, during the summer you will frequently see the Detroit Mounted Police riding through the neighborhood on their grand horses.

Future Growth Potential

As Livernois (once known as Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion) continues to redevelop with the support of a $1.3 million dollar grant, the University District will certainly be one of the strongest neighborhoods in Detroit for growth moving forward.
