About the neighborhood

The Boston–Edison Historic District is a historic neighborhood located in the geographic center of Detroit, Michigan. It consists of over 900 homes, which includes some of the most historic mansions built in Detroit. See Images of Historic Homes in Boston Edison.

Who lived there

Many significant and famous people have lived in the neighborhood. A few interesting people…Henry Ford, the Fisher families, Joe Lewis, Ty Cobb, Bary Gordy (founder of Motown Records), the Kresge family (founder of K-Mart) and many more. See Significant Residences of Boston Edison.

Where is Boston Edison?

The Boston Edison neighborhood is made up of Boston Blvd, Chicago Blvd, Longfellow and Edison stretching from Woodward Avenue on the east to Linwood Avenue on the west. It is one of the largest residential historic districts in the nation. and was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1973 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Reason for future growth

The Boston Edison neighborhood has seen significant growth over the past few years and is positioned for significant growth moving forward. One of the main driving forces in home values will be due to the expansion of the light rail, known as the Q-Line,  as it expands its service north up Woodward through the Boston Edison neighborhood. Boston Edison will also be the benefactor of the growth that is taking place in the New Center and North End areas as they continue to develop more residential, office and retail.
